Biotifx® BLOCK: A Smarter Solution for Collection System Treatment

Collection systems are essential parts of the wastewater treatment process, and any operational interruptions can have a negative impact on their efficiency. Typical chemical and/or reactive treatments can also put a financial strain on system operators. Discover the power of Bacillus-based bioaugmentation to proactively treat collection systems, and learn how our newest product, Biotifx® BLOCK, makes treatment even simpler with an easy-to-use dosing method, saving you and your customers time and money.

Breaking Down the Problems and Exploring Solutions

Although every situation is unique, collection systems tend to face similar time-consuming and expensive challenges. However, our microbial products include scientifically selected Bacillus strains and micronutrient packages formulated to mitigate common wastewater treatment issues, including:

Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG)

Challenge: When FOG from wastewater builds up in collection systems, a multitude of issues can arise, such as system backups, foaming, and floating solids. Getting rid of this buildup often requires physical removal.

Solution: The Bacillus in our Biotifx® products reduce FOG by using it and other unwanted organic material as food, digesting and removing it from the system. Plus, Bacillus’s consumption of FOG proactively lowers the amount of accumulation in the system, which means your customers can reduce the labor and capital costs involved with physical removal. Plus, now that less FOG is entering the wastewater treatment plant, operational efficiency improves and upsets are reduced.

Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S)

Challenge: H2S is a dangerous gas that can be converted into sulfuric acid and cause corrosive damage to concrete, mechanical, and electrical components of collection systems. Many traditional treatment methods cover up the problem without addressing the root cause. If left untreated like this, replacement of the corroded equipment may be necessary, and while this is effective, it is non-preventative.

Solution: Our bioaugmentation products help remove sulfur and improve septic conditions so that the bacteria responsible for the formation of H2S cannot thrive. This leads to increased safety and reduced corrosion of system components, saving facility operators the cost of replacing them.

Odors

Challenge: Both FOG and H2S can contribute to the production of odors, which, if left untreated, could potentially result in fines or lawsuits. Chemicals are typically used to get odors under control, but these products only function as a temporary fix, as they do not attack the problem at its source.

Solution: Biotifx® products tackle odors at the root by digesting odorous compounds and even preventing their formation. Using bioaugmentation to manage odors can save your customers money by reducing reliance on expensive traditional chemicals, some of which may only mask odors.

Treat with Ease: Biotifx® BLOCK

Our newest wastewater treatment product, Biotifx® BLOCK, provides all the above benefits in an easy-to-use dosing method. While effective in many different treatment scenarios, BLOCK’s packaging in a mesh bag makes it simple to hang in a collection system and eliminates the need for added equipment/labor that can be associated with liquid or powder dosing. BLOCK’s innovative, slow-release formula of Bacillus bacteria and beneficial micronutrients treats for approximately 30–90 days depending on flow. With one unit of BLOCK able to treat up to 250,000 gallons of water per day, this new Biotifx® product is a cost-effective and powerful choice for collection systems.
