Bio-Manufacturing Operator I - Spray Drying

Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • The Bio-manufacturing Operator I – Spray Drying will be responsible for operating the pilot and plant spray dryers in production of dried spore forming bacteria.
  • Responsible for operating pilot and plant spray dryers, and all supporting equipment which include pumps, valves, cleaning systems and automation controls in the production of spray dried powder
  • Perform analytical testing to ensure the slurry and finished product meets customer specifications (moisture, pH, density, etc.)
  • Submit samples of slurry and finished products to quality control or lab for analysis
  • Maintain accurate written records or logs of raw materials, finished products and all production processes
  • Understand and follow production schedules working closely with the fermentation manager
  • Troubleshoot equipment/process related issues on the spray dryers and associated equipment
  • Responsible for achieving units and fermentation team goals
  • Follows SOPs (standard operating procedures) and work instructions for all tasks to ensure safe, quality products are manufactured
  • Operate process and utility equipment in a hygienic and safe manner in accordance with all processing procedures, cGMP, HAACP, FSMA and OSHA instructions and guidelines
  • Assist in maintaining all process areas within the manufacturing environment to comply with current regulatory guidelines and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Typical Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to sit or stand and move about the facility
  • Exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors
  • Plant environment, not temperature controlled. Working around bacteria, chemicals and other potential hazards

Education/Training:

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree, or equivalent college experience preferred but High School degree acceptable with prior experience in fermentation, spray drying, bacterial and/or chemical products

Relevant Job Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience in fermentation, spray drying or chemical product operations
  • High level of independence and initiative is required

Specialized Job/Technical Knowledge:

  • Operates relevant equipment based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Can recognize equipment malfunctions and understands basic, routine maintenance
  • Develops expertise in one or more specific areas
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of basic computer skills
  • Knowledge loading, operating and cleaning spray drying equipment
  • Experience with operation of forklift and scissors lift
  • Demonstrates proficiency in basic math skills
