Did You Know? - Rotifer Facts
- July 29, 2015
There are over 2200 species of rotifers.
Rotifer stands for the Latin name of “wheel bearer”.
Rotifers may be present in soil, water, and mosses.
Largemouth species such as the Felina Rotifer are not commonly observed in activated sludge, but often found in lagoon systems, as they prey on algae.
Almost all Rotifers are female. Some species can reproduce asexually, and for others, the male Rotifer only lives long enough to fertilize eggs.
